Lott Student Advisory Board

The student organization for the Lott Leadership Institute, the Lott Student Advisory Board supports the mission of the Lott Institute and provides supplementary programming for Lott students. The Board assists in the Institute’s recruiting efforts, offers peer mentoring services for incoming students, coordinates alumni interaction events, and puts on special events.

To support incoming students, the Lott Student Advisory Board works with campus partners and the Lott Institute to put on the annual Lott Retreat, which operated in 2021 as a multi-night event for the first time. At these events, Lott students were paired with peer mentors, acclimated to the building, exposed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programming, given access to a variety of academic majors and minors, and connected with a diverse group of student organizations. The Lott peer mentor program supports first-year students in their transition to the University, offering professional development opportunities, support services, and a friendly face.

In September 2021, the Lott Student Advisory Board put on the first annual Orchid Ball, a rotating benefit to apply the lessons of public policy and leadership by targeting funds at issues where our small community can make a difference. For the inaugural event, proceeds benefited graduates of the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program (METP) in reducing out-of-pocket expenses for classroom setup.
